Korean Translation of Queer Diplomacy
Dr. Janoff was invited to Seoul in July 2025 to promote the launch of the Korean version. Over three days, the author participated in several events. On July 4 there was a panel discussion on queer diplomacy organized by the NGO Rainbow Alliance and the Korean Association for LGBTQ+ and Queer Studies, attended by queer activists, academics and government officials.
On July 7, Hantijae Publishing and the Embassy of Colombia sponsored a well-attended event at the Embassy of Canada to the Republic of Korea. The author presented his research and participated in a bilingual dialogue on LGBTQ equality, which brought together the Canadian Ambassador Tamara Mawhinney, the Colombian Ambassador Alejandro Peláez Rodríguez, the book’s translator First Secretary Junghyun Seo, a former Korean legislator Jang Hye-Young, and Korean legal activist Minhee Ryu, a human rights lawyer from the organization Hope and Law. The lively panel discussion touched on the challenges facing Korean queer activists, legal strategies needed to promote LGBTQ equality in Korea, and the role diplomats around the world can play to effect positive change.

Over the course of his visit, Dr. Janoff met with many other Korean LGBTQ community members committed to promoting equality and dignity in areas such as marriage rights, the arts, and support for families and vulnerable groups, such as youth, the elderly, and people facing housing, health and addiction issues. 2024년, 한국 외교관 서정현 서기관은 『퀴어 디플로머시(Queer Diplomacy)』의 저자 더글러스 재노프(Douglas Janoff) 박사에게 책을 한국어로 번역할 수 있을지 문의했습니다.
이후 성소수자(LGBTQ) 관련 다양한 주제를 다뤄온 한국의 도서출판 한티재가 2025년 『퀴어 디플로머시』 한국어판을 출간했으며, 같은 해 약 1,000부가 판매되었습니다.

더글러스 재노프 박사는 한국어판 출간을 기념해 2025년 7월 서울을 방문하였으며, 3일간 여러 행사에 참여했습니다. 7월 4일, 무지개행동과 한국성소수자/퀴어연구학회가 공동 주최한 퀴어디플로머시 패널 토론이 열렸습니다. 이 행사에는 성소수자 인권활동가, 학자, 정부 관계자들이 참석했습니다. 7월 7일, 도서출판 한티재와 주한 콜롬비아대사관이 공동 후원한 북토크 행사가 주한 캐나다대사관에서 개최되어, 많은 참석자들이 함께했습니다.이 자리에서 재노프 박사는 자신의 연구를 소개하고 LGBTQ 평등을 주제로 한 대담에 참여했으며, 대담은 한-영 동시통역으로 진행되었습니다.
